May - 8 - 2012

On Tuesday, May 8th 2012 just after 3am, the Paterson NJ Fire Department responded to 818 East 19th St on a reported fire.  Companies arrived to find a fully involved 2.5sty 25×40 vacant dwelling fully involved and  extending into a similar occupied exposure on the right side.  Battalion 1 arrived a moment later and requested a 2nd alarm.  Crews quickly placed large outside lines into operation darkening the Alpha side fire.  A 3rd alarm was later requested for manpower to assist with additional lines.  There were no reported injuries and the fire was contained to the two dwellings before being placed pwh.

May - 3 - 2012

On Sunday, April 29th, 2012 the Hawthorne NJ Fire Department responded to 2 North 12th St at the corner of Prescott for a reported fire.  First arriving units found heavy fire venting from a 1st floor “D” side window and heavy smoke on the remainder of the 1st and 2nd floors.  Crews quickly advanced hand lines through the rear door and advanced on the fire prior to it extending.  Fire was contained to the room of origin and there were no reported injuries.

On Wednesday, April 25th 2012 the Elmwood Park NJ Fire Department responded to 30 Stefanic Ave on a reported fire.  First arriving units, OEM-1, requested a “Commercial 2nd alarm” when confronted with heavy fire showing out of  the Exposure A attic walls.  Exterior operations were quickly put into operation to darken the fire.  Mutual aid companies arrived to assist with fire that extended down the wall towards the main 2sty.  Crews were able to contain fire before it reached the remainder of the building by containing the fire to just the “A” Wall.

April - 12 - 2012

On Wednesday, April 11th 2012 the Passaic NJ Fire Department responded to 105 Sherman Ave on a reported fire.  First arriving companies reporting smoke showing from a 2.5sty 2-family dwelling and called a working fire.  Crews advanced lines into a basement fire however the fire had already been extending into the first floor through the walls.  As conditions deteriorated, a 2nd alarm was requested and heavy fire advancement caused firefighters to begin bailing out of the windows.  A 3rd alarm was later called as exterior operations continued until place PWH about 2 hours later.

 

April - 11 - 2012

On Easter Sunday, April 8th 2012, the Jersey City NJ Fire Department responded to 347 Claremont Ave for a reported fire.  Companies arrived to find heavy fire in a 2.5sty attached row of frames.  Additional alarm levels were quickly called as fire began to consume the cockloft.  Companies operated with exterior operations until they were able to enter some of the homes to knock down hot spots later on.

February - 26 - 2012

On Saturday, February 25th 2012 the Paterson NJ Fire Department responded to 780 Main St (originally reported as 679 Main St) on a reported fire.  Companies were able to see heavy fire blowing out the front of a vacant 2.5sty wood frame while en-route from the Getty Ave Firehouse.  Crews began to hit heavy fire with outside lines and then advanced lines inside.  Interior conditions made reaching the extension into the attic difficult and a 2nd alarm was later requested.  During overhaul, a deceased victim was located on the 2nd floor.

February - 26 - 2012

On Monday, February 20th 2012 while traveling westbound on Route 80, I located a column of smoke visible from Grand St.   I traced the smoke to a rear lot behind a vacant pool facility on Grand St a few addresses away from Engine 7.  Companies gained entry through a locked gate to find a large pile of rubbish and brush burning.  Suspect fled prior to anyone’s arrival.
